The engagement

We assist nonprofit organisations with financial reporting, tax and compliance reviews. The engagement can identify gaps between the governing documents, actual operations and the records needed to support them.

Scope of work

  • Review of financial reporting and accounting arrangements
  • Tax registration and continuing compliance review
  • Governance records and responsibility schedules
  • Foreign contribution compliance review where relevant
  • Expansion plans and project-level financial controls

Engagement deliverables

The agreed work may include a compliance checklist, reporting calendar, financial control procedures and a prioritised action plan for trustees or office bearers. Matters requiring legal amendments or regulatory permission are identified separately.

How the work begins

  1. Describe the requirement. Identify the entity, proposed transaction or matter and any deadline.
  2. Review acceptance and scope. We assess the facts, competence, independence and other relevant professional requirements.
  3. Agree written terms. Confirm responsibilities, records, deliverables and the intended use of the work.

Common question

Does charitable status exempt an organisation from all compliance?

No. Obligations depend on its legal form, registrations, activities and receipts. These should be reviewed before expansion or acceptance of a new category of funds.
